Step 1:
Purchase tickets to see Roger Creager + Reckless Kelly + Eli Young Band + Pat Green perform at Terminal 5. A full 6 weeks in advance. Spend the next 6 weeks preparing for what will surely be the best country concert you will ever see outside of Texas.
Step 2:
Trade CDs of all Roger, Reckless, Eli, Pat songs with Texas friends to ensure the best possible song mix has made it into a "TX Independence Day" playlist. Then spend at least 1 week before the concert rocking this playlist and / or a custom Slacker radio station at work. All day, every day.
Step 3:
Plan to meet some of your favorite Texans for preconcert dinner and margs at Blockheads. The NYC equivalent of a preparty.
Step 4:
Cowboy boots are required. But also be prepared to walk nicely...because there is still icey slushiness on the ground. And falling / ruining said boots is not one of the steps to success.
Step 5:
Arrive with enough time to visit coat check, purchase beverages and secure a good viewing spot near the stage before Roger comes out.
Step 6:
Sing along as loud as you possibly can. It makes the concert experience better.
Step 7:
Dance with cute boys. Also makes the experience better. Trust me.
Step 8 (optional):
It's inevitable that Texas colleges will be called out by name. Be sure to have your Horns / Guns / Thumbs / Horned Frogs ready. If you didn't go to one of these schools, you should probably pick which one you like best and cheer with them. Might I suggest throwing up the Horns?
Step 9:
Continue to nearest bar for an after party / recap of best ever performances.
Step 10:
Spend the entire following day with Roger, Reckless, Eli and Pat playing on repeat in your head. And love it.
Happy Texas Independence Day!!
Weeeee!! I just wish there was a Step 11: Repeat!! Every. Single. Weekend.
